Module Guide: Configuration
Configuration is a top-level menu in the main sidebar, below the modules. It holds the operational setup that more than one module depends on — the working calendar, the mail GoldServe sends on your behalf, and the approval chains that route requests.
It is a different place from Settings, and the split is worth learning:
| Settings (gear icon, top bar) | Configuration (sidebar menu) | |
|---|---|---|
| Holds | System administration and each module's own settings screens | Shared operational data used across modules |
| Examples | Roles, companies, mail server, module toggles | Holidays, mail templates, approval chains |
| Touched | Once at setup, then rarely | Whenever the working year or a process changes |
This guide is the map. No technical background needed.
Purpose
Configuration answers: "What does our working year look like, what does the system say when it writes to people, and who has to approve what?"

Related setup that lives in the Settings screen
Two more areas are configuration in spirit but are reached through Settings rather than through this menu:
| Area | What it covers | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Work Types & Shifts | The scheduling building blocks Attendance and Payroll depend on. | Work Types & Shifts |
| Each module's own settings | The per-module tabs in Settings — Recruitment, Attendance, Leave, Payroll, Performance, Training, Help Desk. | Module Settings |

Holidays, Company Leaves, and Restrict Leaves appear in two places, and never in both at once for the same person:
- Employees and managers reach them from the Leave menu, as reference — the working calendar they need to plan around.
- Administrators who hold the matching permission get them in the Configuration menu instead, where they can be edited.
How Visibility Is Decided
- The menu as a whole. Configuration appears for administrators holding the leave-restriction permission or one of the company-leave permissions. This is worth knowing when a role looks correct but the menu is missing: an administrator granted only mail-template or holiday permissions will not see the menu, even though those screens would admit them. A full system administrator always sees it.
- Each item within it. Every menu entry then carries its own permission check, so two administrators can open Configuration and see different lists.
- Installed modules. Multiple Approvals needs the Leave module; Mail Automations needs the automation module.
- Company. Holidays, company off-days, and approval conditions all belong to a company and follow the company switcher. Mail templates and automations are system-wide.
Good to Know
- What is configured here shows up everywhere. A holiday added here changes leave day-counts, attendance minimum-hour checks, and compensatory leave eligibility at once — it is not a Leave-only record.
- Configuration is operational; Settings is administrative. If what you are looking for is about who may do something, it is in Settings. If it is about when work happens or what the system says, it is here.
- These screens are edited more than once. Unlike most of Settings, the working calendar is revisited every year, and approval chains change whenever a process does.
