Bonus Points

This guide covers recognizing good work with points, awarded manually or automatically.

Purpose

Recognition works best when it's timely. This answers: "How does good work get acknowledged, right when it happens?"

Awarding Points

A manager or administrator can award bonus points to an employee directly, with a reason attached. Every award adds to (or, if needed, subtracts from) the employee's running point balance, and stays on file as a dated entry in their history — a full record of every award, not just the current total.

Automatic Awards

Points can also be configured to award themselves automatically, without anyone manually stepping in. A rule can be set up to trigger when an objective or key result is marked complete — optionally only if it was completed by its target date — and award a fixed number of points to the employee it belonged to. If Project is in use, the same kind of rule can also apply to completed project tasks.

Viewing Balances

Every employee can see their own bonus point balance and award history. Managers can see it for their team, following the standard reporting-line visibility used across the system.

How Visibility Is Decided

  1. Being the employee in question. Everyone can see their own balance and history.
  2. The reporting line. Managers see their team's balances alongside their own.
  3. Permissions. Awarding points and configuring automatic rules require the relevant permission.

Customization Options

  • Automatic award rules can be scoped to objectives, key results, or (with Project installed) tasks, and to the person who owns, manages, or is a member of the triggering item.
  • On-time bonuses can be configured as a stricter variant, only awarding points when the completion date beats the deadline.

Good to Know

  • Points are earned here; they're spent elsewhere. Redeeming bonus points happens through Employee, with payroll handling the payout if applicable.
  • Automatic rules run in the background — once configured, points are awarded the moment a qualifying objective, key result, or task is completed, with no manual step required.
Good work, recognized on the spot.
