Allocation & Compensatory Leave
This guide covers two ways a balance can grow outside the normal reset cycle: requesting extra days directly, and earning leave for working a holiday.
Purpose
Sometimes a balance needs a manual top-up — a goodwill gesture, a correction, or credit for time worked when it shouldn't have been. This answers: "How does extra leave get added to someone's balance, outside the usual schedule?"
Leave Allocation Requests
An employee — or their manager, on their behalf — can request that a specific number of extra days be added to a particular leave type's balance, with a reason. Approving the request adds those days directly to the employee's balance; rejecting it (including reversing a request that was already approved) removes them again.
Compensatory Leave
If Attendance is in use, an employee who worked on a recognized holiday can convert that day into a day of leave. They select the specific holiday attendance record being claimed — each one can only be claimed once — and, once approved, the equivalent time (a full or half day, based on how much was actually worked) is added to a dedicated Compensatory Leave balance. Rejecting an already-approved claim removes the credited time again.
This feature can be turned on or off company-wide.

How Visibility Is Decided
- Ownership. Everyone can request an allocation, or claim compensatory leave, for themselves.
- The reporting line. A reporting manager can act on behalf of, and approve or reject requests for, their own direct team.
- Permissions. Broader visibility and approval rights require the relevant permission.
Customization Options
- Whether compensatory leave is offered at all is a single company-wide setting.
Good to Know
- An allocation request has no built-in cap — approving one simply adds the requested days, so it's worth treating as a deliberate, case-by-case decision rather than a routine approval.
- A holiday attendance record can only be converted to compensatory leave once — there's no double-claiming the same worked day.
- Compensatory leave lands in its own dedicated leave type, kept separate from the company's other leave balances.
Extra time earned, extra time tracked.
