Appearance
Settings: General Settings
Settings → General → General Settings is a single scrolling page holding the system-wide toggles and defaults. It is not one module's screen: several modules contribute their own panel to it, and each panel carries its own permission, so what you see here depends on what you are allowed to change.
Each panel saves independently. There is no single "Save" for the page — every panel has its own Save Changes button, or a switch that saves the moment you flip it.
Purpose
This answers: "What are the system's defaults, and which behaviours are switched on?"
The Panels
| Panel | What it sets | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Announcement Expire | How many days an announcement stays visible when no expiry date is given. Defaults to 30. | System-wide |
| Default Records Per Page | How many rows list views show before paging. | Your own account only |
| Employee Account Restrictions | Two switches: Restrict Login Account and Restrict Profile Edit. | System-wide |
| Resignation Request (Offboarding) | Whether employees can submit their own resignation. | Per company |
| Time Runner (Attendance) | The At-Work Tracker — a live count of today's worked hours inside the check-in button. | Per company |
| Notice Period (Payroll) | The default notice period, in days, that new contracts are pre-filled with. | Per company |
| Badge Prefix (Employee) | The prefix used when generating employee badge IDs, set per company. | Per company |
| Encashment Redeem Condition (Payroll) | Bonus Unit and Leave Unit — what one bonus point, and one day of leave, are worth in money when encashed. | System-wide |
| Employee History Tracking | Which employee fields are recorded in the change history, plus a Work Information Tracking switch. | System-wide |
| Currency (Payroll) | The currency symbol and whether it appears before or after the number, per company. | Per company |
Panel by Panel
Announcement Expire
Default Expire Days is the number of days an announcement remains visible when its author does not set an expiry date. See Dashboard for where announcements appear.
Default Records Per Page
This is a personal preference, not a system default — it is stored against your own account and changes nothing for anyone else. Anyone who can open the General Settings page can set their own. When a person has never set one, their list views fall back to 20 rows.
Employee Account Restrictions
Two independent switches:
- Restrict Login Account — turns on the ability for a disciplinary action to block someone's login. With it off, a suspension or dismissal is recorded but never locks the account. See Employee: Disciplinary Actions.
- Restrict Profile Edit — stops employees editing their own profile. Turning it on asks for confirmation first, because it applies to everyone at once. It also adds a Profile Edit Access entry to the Accessibility Restriction screen, so specific people can be given the ability back.
Resignation Request (from Offboarding)
Controls whether the self-service resignation flow exists at all. With it off, exits are recorded by HR only. See Offboarding: Resignation Requests.
Time Runner (from Attendance)
The At-Work Tracker shows an employee their current day's worked hours, live, inside the check-in button in the top bar. Purely a display feature — it changes nothing about how attendance is recorded.
Notice Period (from Payroll)
Default Notice Period is the number of days new contracts start with. It is a starting value only; each contract can be changed individually. See Payroll: Contracts.
Badge Prefix (from Employee)
The prefix that auto-generated employee badge IDs start with, chosen per company. Changing it affects IDs generated from that point on.
Encashment Redeem Condition (from Payroll)
- Bonus Unit — the money value of one bonus point when encashed.
- Leave Unit — the money value of one day of leave when encashed.
Both are single system-wide figures, not per company. See Payroll: Reimbursements & Encashments.
Employee History Tracking
- Tracking Fields — which employee work-information fields (department, job position, shift, and so on) get written to the change history when they are updated. Fields left unselected change without leaving a history entry.
- Work Information Tracking — a master switch for recording work-information history at all.
The entries this produces are what History Tags label.
Currency (from Payroll)
The Currency Symbol and its Position — prefix (before the number) or postfix (after it). Set per company, so a multi-company system can show each company's pay in its own currency. See Payroll: Payslips.
What Each User Sees
| Action | Employee | Reporting Manager | HR Administrator |
|---|---|---|---|
| Set their own records-per-page | — | — | ✅ |
| Change any other panel | — | — | ✅ |
Reaching this page at all means being able to open Settings, which an employee without administrative permissions cannot do. The panels then appear one by one according to permission.
How Visibility Is Decided
- One permission per panel. Each panel is shown only to someone holding that panel's own change permission. An administrator responsible for payroll may see only the payroll panels; someone else may see only the announcement panel.
- Installed modules. The Offboarding, Attendance, and Payroll panels only exist if those modules are installed.
- Company. The per-company panels follow the company switcher, and several of them include their own company selector so one visit can set the value for a specific company.
Good to Know
- This page is shared, not owned. Payroll, Attendance, Offboarding, and Employee all place settings here rather than inside their own sections — so if a setting is not where you expect it, check here first.
- Switches save immediately; text fields do not. The toggles apply the moment they are flipped. The numeric and text panels need their Save Changes button.
- Two panels only appear for a full system administrator. Encashment Redeem Condition and Employee History Tracking are gated on permissions that do not exist, so they cannot be granted to an ordinary HR administrator through a role. A superuser sees and can use both.
- Records-per-page is the only personal setting on an otherwise system-wide page. Changing it affects nobody else, however wide your permissions are.
